Turku 1827
This project is a virtual reconstruction of the City of Turku, old capital of Finland, before it was almost completely destroyed by a big fire in 1827. Made for the Museum of History and the Future, which opens in 2029, the goal for this project is to set a strong foundation for the future development of digital content for the client's institution and create a reliable open-source library of the 3D models.
Using the Unreal Engine 5, the project was concluded in early 2023 and created not only a full digital replica of the city, but also multiple sub-projects from the same base, such as a mobile app, educational videos, 360 experiences, art projects such as the SubTurku 1827 and an Open-Source library.
My most significant project in Heritage as it helped me to better understand the heritage institution's ecosystems, which enable me and our team to recognize and adapt to different needs, creating a functional 3D maquette that served as a platform to create different experiences.
The project has benefited multiple institutions in Turku, and, with its Open-Source Library Online its expected to reach even further into the local community and digital content creators. For more information about the project, please check my presentation at the MusemNext in 2022 or watch the Study-Case video linked below:
